On January 8, 2000, the Wood House was moved from its location on Domtar property, where it was scheduled for demolition, to its present site in Lamoureux Park on the banks of the St. Lawrence River.  Relocating this 500 ton building was a massive undertaking spearheaded by Cornwall's S.D.&G. Historical Society.  The relocation was the city's designated millenium project, and was financed in equal parts by the city, the federal government, and the historical society.  The community's support was phenomenal -- more than 400 local people and businesses contributed over $400,000 toward saving and relocating this heritage building, one of Cornwall's oldest remaining structures.
